After the notorious "Battle in Seattle" protests during the WTO conference, the ACLU was granteed a spot at the Staples Center for organized protests and speeches. The violence that accompanied the WTO conference in Seattle and the Republican Convention in Philadelphia was cleverly averted at the Democratic convention in LA by giving protestors a moment in the spotlight.
